Golf Betting Odds: PGA Tour fights back

The PGA Tour heads to TPC River Highlands this weekend after a dramatic US Open at Brookline.

Golf usually dominates the newspapers and headlines at this time of year, with the majors coming thick and fast on both sides of the Atlantic.

However, the tussle for supremacy between the PGA Tour and Saudi-backed LIV Golf Invitational series continues ahead of another action-packed weekend.

The PGA Tour has confirmed plans to increase purses at several marquee events, just hours after four-time major winner Brooks Koepka decided to join the LIV series.

Koepka has reportedly agreed to tee it up in Portland next week, joining the likes of Dustin Johnson, Bryson DeChambeau and Phil Mickelson.

While the likes of Collin Morikawa and Matt Fitzpatrick have reaffirmed their loyalty to the PGA Tour, Koepka has decided to try a new challenge ahead of The Open Championship in Scotland.

Thankfully for him and the rest of his LIV colleagues, Open organisers have confirmed they can play at St Andrews next month. The DP World Tour has yet to announce if it will punish those that have left, and it promises to be an intense few weeks for all involved.

This weekend’s PGA Tour event comes from TPC River Highlands, as the Travelers Championship heads to Connecticut. Rory McIlroy remains the favourite at 9/1 due to his recent form, but the likes of Scottie Scheffler, Justin Thomas and Patrick Cantlay (12/1 to win – outright) are also due to play.

American Billy Horschel (11/1 to win – outright) heads the BMW International Open on the DP World Tour in Germany, and he will be joined by Louis Oosthuizen and Sergio Garcia (16/1 to win – outright).

There is also a record £7.3million purse up for grabs in this week’s Women’s PGA Championship after organisers doubled its prize money. Defending champion Nelly Korda will hope to reclaim her crown and scoop up £1.1million in the process, but she will need to fend off the likes of Jin Young Ko and Minjee Lee (12/1 to win – outright).
