Hammers set the standard for Howe

Eddie Howe

Eddie Howe admits his Newcastle side can learn plenty from West Ham’s rise under David Moyes as they prepare to take on the Hammers on Saturday lunchtime (Match Betting – West Ham 8/11, Draw 11/4, Newcastle 9/2).

The Magpies have won their last three games to open a four-point gap between themselves and the bottom three and will be looking to extend that run at a ground where they have enjoyed plenty of recent success.

Newcastle have won on their last two trips to the London Stadium and West Ham’s 4-2 win at St James’ Park in August ended a run of three straight victories for the Tyensiders against the Londoners.

However, despite their frustration against the Magpies, West Ham have significantly progressed under Moyes, finishing sixth last term, and they start the weekend sat fifth (15/2 Top Four Finish).

The Scot has both improved the players available to him following his return in December 2019, and used his nous in the market to uncover some gems.

Howe has been able to take a different route, with his club’s new owners spending big in January in a bid to avoid relegation following their October takeover.

Winter arrivals Kieran Trippier, Dan Burn and Chris Wood (21/20 Anytime Goalscorer) all started last Sunday’s 1-0 win over Aston Villa, while Bruno Guimaraes and Matt Targett could come into the lineup on Saturday.

The Toon boss admits his team will “need to be at our best levels” in Stratford against a side and a coach he clearly admires.

“David has done an incredible job, look at the league position they are in,” Howe told reporters. “He has done a brilliant job in calming everyone down and getting results, they look like a stable team and good spirit and delivered on a consistent basis.

“Full compliments to him and his staff. We will need to be at our best levels. We will need to see the same levels as recent games.”
