Morant makes history for Memphis

Memphis Grizzlies (22/1 – NBA Championship Outright) point guard Ja Morant scored a franchise-high 52 points to lead his side to a 118-105 victory over San Antonio Spurs on Tuesday.

Morant, who landed 22 of 30 field goal attempts, broke the record he had set just two days prior when he scored 46 points in the 116-110 win against Chicago Bulls.

His exploits denied vetern Spurs coach Gregg Popovich tying Don Nelson’s NBA record for regular-season coaching victories (1,335), however, the 73-year-old was still full of praise for Morant.

Popovich said: “He’s a beautiful player. What else can you say about him? It’s not just that he’s athletic. Everybody says, ‘He’s athletic.’ Somebody says, ‘He’s a freak of nature,’ because he’s so fast.

“But he makes decisions. He knows what is going on on the court. So, you combine that cerebral part of his game with his athleticism and you’ve got a special kid.”

Giannis Antetokounmpo also enjoyed a fine night as he recorded a fifth consecutive double-double to help the Milwaukee Bucks (13/2 – NBA Championship Outright Winner) defeat Charlotte Hornets.

The Greek two-time MVP scored 26 points, 16 rebounds, six assists and four blocks, while all 14 of his efforts from the free-throw line were successful.
