Today’s Horse Racing Odds: Saturday 22nd January

There’s plenty of quality racing action on Saturday with the Clarence House Chase at Ascot, the Peter Marsh Handicap at Haydock and day two of Lingfield’s new Winter Million Festival.

There’s also a return for Grand National and Cheltenham hero Tiger Roll, who is set to run in his first handicap hurdle since 2016 when he lines up at Navan.

Ascot has seven races in total, starting at 12:35 and finishing up with the 16:05 with the feature being the Clarence House Chase at 15:35 when Energumene (6/4) and Shishkin (4/6) go head-to-head in an eagerly-awaited showdown.

Energumene is unbeaten in five starts over fences, and looked in superb nick when taking a Grade 2 contest at Cork last month, while Shishkin is also unbeaten over fences, winning last year’s Arkle Chase at Cheltenham and following up in the Doom Bar Maghull Novices’ Chase at Aintree.

First Flow (12/1), who won this race last year, and Amoola Gold (100/1) are the other two runners.

The action over the polytrack at Lingfield starts at 12:45 and there are seven races on day two of their three-day Winter Million offering, including the Coral Winter Oaks Fillies’ Handicap, which is due off at 15:40. Umm Hurair (11/4), Viola (7/1), Pretty Sweet (9/1) and Miss Marble (8/1) are among the runners in a field of 14.

At Haydock, the Peter Marsh Handicap is due to get underway at 14:35 with racing at the Merseyside venue scheduled between 12:50 and 16:15, where there are eight contests in all.

In the feature, Empire Steel (4/1) who won two novice events over fences last term and was second over C&D in November, is expected to go well, while Royale Pagaille (5/2), Remastered (4/1) and Lord Du Mesnil (9/1) are among the others of note.

There are also seven races at Taunton between 12:58 and 16:25 and all-weather action at Wolverhampton later with eight races scheduled to start at 16:30 and finish after the last one at 20:00.

Finally, Navan’s eight-race card in Ireland is lit up by the inclusion of double Grand National winner Tiger Roll (22/1), who is among a field of 17 in the Navan Handicap Hurdle at 13:40.
