Today’s Horse Racing Odds: Saturday 5th March

There are six meetings – at Newbury, Kelso, Doncaster, Lingfield, Southwell and Navan – across the UK and Ireland to get stuck into on Saturday.

Lingfield’s eight-race card gets a packed day of racing started, the action running from 12:49 until 16:45, and there are extra places being paid out in the opener, the 14:34, the 15:50 and the 16:19.

Next up on the agenda is a seven-race affair at Kelso (13:00-16:25) and much attention will be on the Morebattle Handicap at 15:35, which will see 12 runners compete over 2m 51y.

The Morebattle is one of two Super Extra Place Races on the card, the other being 14:05, and the Harry Fry-trained Metier could be the one to beat at 3/1 following victory last time out, although Autumn Evening (5/1) and Cormier (13/2) are big threats.

Extra places are also being paid out in the 14:40 and the 15:43 and there could be some value in backing 5/1 Heartbreak Kid in the latter of those two races, with Donald McCain’s charge aiming for a third straight win.

No less than eight races take place over in Ireland at Navan, the action going from 13:10 until 17:05, before the attention then turns towards the seven races taking place at Newbury (13:15-16:47).

The Greatwood Gold Cup at 13:50 is the Super Extra Place Race on the card and Tamaroc Du Mathan, for trainer Paul Nicholls, is a 9/2 chance to cross the finish line first, while Dublin Four (9/2), Glen Forsa (5/1) and Farinet (5/1) are also prominent towards the top of the market.

Doncaster’s seven-race card is the penultimate meeting of the day, the action going from 13:45 until 17:15, and the Grimthorpe Handicap Chase, set over 3m 2f 1y, promises to be an exciting affair.

Le Milos is aiming for a hat-trick of wins for trainer Tim Vaughan and is 7/2 to achieve this feat, although stiff competition is expected from 4/1 Storm Control, 9/2 Mister Malarky and 5/1 Undersupervision.

Last, but by no means least, the action is brought to a conclusion with Southwell’s eight-race offering. The opener, which is covered by the ‘Free Bet if 2nd’ promotion, is scheduled for 17:00 while the finale is set for 20:30.
